Our May roses
|
I love our yard in May. Here in Southern California we prune our roses in late December or January and have beautiful roses by April. I feed them Epson Salts by sprinkling two tablespoons about two inches away from the base of the rose and watering it well into the earth. This increases the number of buds and the size of the rose. You should check with your local nursery to see if it is feasible in your area. The roses will bloom until they are pruned back again. Roses are my favorite flowers and at one time we had fifty three of them growing in the front yard and the back garden. When we added onto the house we had to sacrifice the back garden. We saved our roses by giving them to our neighbors and friends.
Love your roses, Ginger. In CT ours are closed tight buds in the AM, open wide in the PM, never happened before. But this has been an odd weather year. We'll have to see about Epsom Salts in the soil for our zone, never heard of it. Be blessed, Janet
